These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the AO3 Dark Mode browser extension and the ao3darkmode.com website (together, the "Service"). By installing the extension or using this website, you agree to these Terms.

1. What the Service is

AO3 Dark Mode is a free, unofficial browser extension that applies a dark theme and reading-comfort adjustments to pages on archiveofourown.org. It is provided for personal, non-commercial use to improve readability.

2. Independent, unofficial status

AO3 Dark Mode is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected with the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) or Archive of Our Own (AO3). "AO3" and "Archive of Our Own" are trademarks of their respective owners, used here only to describe compatibility.

3. License to use

Subject to these Terms, you are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the extension for its intended purpose. You may not resell, sublicense, reverse engineer for malicious purposes, or redistribute the extension as your own product.

4. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation. Archive of Our Own may change its website at any time in ways that affect how the extension displays pages; we make reasonable efforts to keep the extension working but cannot guarantee compatibility at all times.

5. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer of AO3 Dark Mode shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service, including but not limited to visual display issues, loss of data, or interruption of access to archiveofourown.org.

6. Content on Archive of Our Own

AO3 Dark Mode does not host, modify, copy, or redistribute any content from Archive of Our Own. It only changes how that content is visually displayed in your own browser. All works, comments, and other content remain the property of their original authors and are subject to AO3's own Terms of Service.

7. Changes to the Service

We may update, modify, or discontinue the extension or this website at any time without prior notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

8. Privacy

Our data practices are described separately in the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by general principles of applicable consumer-protection and software-licensing law in the jurisdiction where the Service is offered, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.
